Today we had to motion track a CG extension on to some footage, this included using the programs after effects and photoshop.
The first thing we had to do was import the footage (.MOV) to after effects, we then discovered a problem, we had to motion track the footage in two different sections, this was because the footage changed position; meaning if we would've tracked it in one go it wouldn't have worked. We selected motion track and then rotation, ( this gives you two tracking points), we tracked the first section of the footage that we wanted to be tracked, we then added a null layer and added that to the path of the motion track, we repeated this step for the second half of the tracking.
Now we had our motion track paths we had to add the castles, to do this we took a composition screen shot of the required frame and saved it as a photoshop, (.PSD) file and then opened it in photoshop.
To give the illusion of three castles being in the shot we had to duplicate the layers, to do this we right clicked the castle layer and duplicated it, we also had to take into account the different position and angle of the castle being placed at certain distances, we also added a slight background colour to each castle to distort the detail, this would make it look more realistic, once this was done we added it back into after effects and started to colour correct it, but before we done that we had to open the .PSD file within after effects and delete the background layer so it was just the three castles.
To colour correct we selected the Hue and saturation and curves, we changed these so the castles would blend in with the background, this would make it look as if the castles were there, we also added a photo filter for added realism, to finish off we added clouds and parented them to the motion track to make them look realistic, after this was finished we rendered and exported.
