For the feminist theory we have discussed within the class many different theories as to how woman are represented within cinema, we discussed that the gender of the film crew could have influence on the way that women are portrayed, we also done some research into different feminist writers, one of which was Laura Mulvey, in retrospect her theory is that women are used as a glorified marketing tool for men, a visual stimulant that drives men to watch films, this theory is interesting because it shows a womans perception of how women are portrayed in hollywood films, and her personal theories as to how women are used as a marketing tool for men.
Another piece of writing i have analysed is 'beauty myth' by Naomi Wolf, her theory is daily similar to Laura Mulvey's except she applies it to the real world, she explains several cases in restaurants for example where waitresses are made to wear revealing clothing to draw men in, she also explained how women are exploited for the way they look for every day things, such as a job interview, or an important meeting, she explains how women are judged not on their intelligence or other qualities a man would be judged on but the way they look, and that there is a constant pressure to look like the stereotypical 'pretty girl'.
The final theory i analysed was Ann Oakley's gender socialisation theory, this is where a child is stereotypically expected to be like other children, for example if a boy was playing with a spiderman toy but all the other boys at school had a batman toy he would then get a batman toy to fit the stereotype, or if a child's parents manipulated them into following the stereotypical category of all boys loving guns and playing outdoors.
