48 hour film challenge update
In the 25th of September I shot my 10 minute film for the challenge, the filming went well and took around 3 hours, after I shot the film I took the footage and began to edit it on the 26th of September, the editing took about an hour, the reason it took so little time is because found footage can only really be cut, to keep the image of the genre no effects, music or effects can be added, so the editing hasn't taken me Long, I finished with two drafts of the footage, the first draft and the final draft.
Costume drama notes
Costume drama
This is wearing clothing relevant to the subject of the program, for example, downtown abbey was set during the first and Second World War era, therefore the actors are dressed as people from this era would. Another example of costume drama is the genre, for example a sci if drama may have the actors wearing obscure clothing such as space suits or abnormal clothing, a romantic genre of program may have the actors wearing seductive clothing and a war drama may have the stereotypical clothing that fits the time relevant era in which the program is being based on.
Some codes and conventions of costume dramas are,
elaborated costumes and sets to portrays the particular time period correctly.
Multi stranded narrative based on character, each character has their own storyline
Often part of a series
Linear, but use of flashback
Commercially successful
Sexuality seen as repressed and smouldering, it's left to the audience to imagine what happens
High production values
Distributed in uk and us
Audience appeals, based on history, someone might watch it because they like the history it is covering.

Test screening and interactive marketing
A lot of the film studios such as warner brothers used test screenings with their new fims to get a sections of the publics opinion before the film come out, around 200 people were selected to go to a test screening, they were given card in which they could write their opinions and if they would suggest it to a friend, the studios have a theory that if they got less than 70% of people saying they wouldn't suggest it to a friend, then they would consider there to be a problem with the film. An example of a film changed because of a test screening was little shop of horrors, the test screening went really well until the end of the film where the main character dies, the people were so outraged that they made a new ending for the film where the main character survives and lives happily ever after with the girl of his dreams.
Interactive marketing have been around since the late 90's an example of this is the (1996) film space jam, this film had its own website that was designed that had information about the film, a flash game, links to basketball channel, this was one of the first main marketed films, a more recent one is from a film called untraceable, this was a horror film in which people would go on a website and they would be killed by entering it, for marketing they made a replica of the website featured in the film for the public to go on, this engaged the public and made them want to see the film, this is the main aim of film marketing, to engage the viewer and interact with them and make them want to see the film and tell their friends about it as well.
Update 48hr challenge
Blog post one,
For the 48 hours film challenge I plan to spend around 10 hours, (in total), on pre production, this will allow me enough time to plan everything and create a script, plan, shopping list, etc...
So far I have spent around an hour on the script and have not started the other pieces of pre production, I plan to start filming my short as soon as I have completed the pre- production, I hope to start filming in on the 20th.
